Did the protestant reformation increase or decrease the power of european monarchs? explain.

Their power increased.

Many of the countries declared their independence from the Catholics so the king now also became the main religious ruler. Before that, they would often clash with the Pope on who was the true ruler of people, but with the protestant reformation they could be everything and rule as they saw fit because they couldn't have the pope intervene.
