Let x represent the money he originally had

[tex] \frac{1}{2}  [/tex]x = [tex] \frac{1}{3}  [/tex]x + 5

[tex] \frac{1}{2}  [/tex]x - [tex] \frac{1}{3}  [/tex]x = 5

[tex] \frac{3}{6}  [/tex]x - [tex] \frac{2}{6}  [/tex]x = 5

[tex] \frac{1}{6}  [/tex]x = 5

x = 30

Answer: $30
