add 8x to both sides

- 8x + 8x +1 > 5 - 3x + 8x

1 > 5 + 5x

subtract 5 from both sides

1 - 5 > 5 - 5 + 5x

-4 > 5x

Divide through by 5

-4/5 > x

which is therefore written is

x < -4/5
