Step-by-step explanation:

Given that (x+1,5) = (4,x+2y)

⇛ x+1 = 4 and 5 = x+2y

⇛ x = 4-1

⇛ x = 3

now

5 = x+2y

⇛ 5 = 3+2y

⇛ 5-3 = 2y

⇛ 2 = 2y

⇛ 2y = 2

⇛ y = 2/2

⇛ y = 1

Therefore, x = 2 and y = 1
