Dorothea Dix was a young woman who was concerned on how the mentally ill were being treated. She thought that those who needed help in the mental area should not belong in the prisons. She thought that they should have their own place to get better. Also, she did not agree with the treatment of prisoners. Back then prisoners were treated unfairly and could often be tortured. She made sure that this would not longer happen.
