6 = 2(x + 8) - 5x
Simplify.
6 = 2x + 16 - 5x
Combine like terms.
6 = -3x + 16
Subtract 16 from both sides.
-10 = -3x
Divide both sides by -3.
3 1/3 = x

x is equivalent to 10/3, 3.33 repeating, or 3 1/3.
