Hello!

I would assume we are solving for x, so lets try to understand what we need to do here.

to find the mean, you add all the numbers together and divide by how many number sets there are.

so in this case: (3.8+4.2+5.3+x)/4

so what I did, was go in reverse

(4.8*4)-3.8-4.2-5.3=5.9

so x must be 5.9
